Ashtanga Yoga: suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness, except total beginners.
Ashtanga yoga is one of the 3 classical yoga traditions, kept ‘pure’ since its conception by Shri K Pattabhi Jois in 1948, and was introduced to the West in 1975. There are 6 series of practices, each increasingly difficult – we will follow the Primary Series which is widely considered to be an essential foundation for all Vinyasa style classes.
It is a continuous smooth flowing practice which synchronizes the breath with a set series of poses.
The practice is vigorous and athletic producing internal heat that creates a strong body and a calm mind. You will use sun salutations, standing postures, balance poses, forward bends, twists, back bends, and inversions to understand the true meaning of Yoga, as you learn to work with your body, mind & breath.
At the moment there is no dedicated Ashtanga Practice - you are invited to Vinyasa Flow (Power Yoga) classes as an alternative.
